Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment that uses scented botanical oils extracted from plants, flowers and herbs to promote healing and relaxation a practice that spans nearly 6,000 years of history. Aromatic oils are a common, organic product used in a variety of spa treatment. Oils can be heated over a burner to diffuse scents throughout a room, added to bath water or used in herbal steam treatments. They are also applied directly to the body though massage therapy. Aromatherapy is used to relieve pain, reduce anxiety and increase relaxation. Popular aromatic oils include lavender, geranuim, rose, lemon, grass and peppermint. Thai spas also use extracted oils from regional plant life, like jusmine, which thrives in the colder northern climate of the country.
